Arabic Tattoos: Celebrities Getting Inked

Arabic TattoosArabic tattoos have become recent favorites among the rich and famous. This may come as a surprise to those who are familiar with Arabic culture. Permanent tattoos are hardly ever seen in Arab countries, since the preferred form of body art in those places is henna art, or what people in Western countries call temporary tattoos. Tattoos have definitely come so far in Western countries from when they were exclusively associated with soldiers and sailors. These days, just about anyone can choose to have a tattoo and even celebrities have joined the masses in getting their body inked.

Celebrity Arabic Tattoos

Angelina Jolie and Rihanna are just two of the famous names you are likely to see on a list of celebrities who have opted for Arabic tattoos. But, what do their arabic tattoos mean and are they even aware if their respective meanings? Angelina Jolie, who has a tattoo on just about every part of her body, has recently added an Arabic word to her collection. The word “al-‘azeema,” which translates to “the firm will,” can be seen on her right arm. Well the tattoo and its meaning certainly seems quite fitting, and fans would be pleased to know that their role model has done her homework and ensured that the Arabic word is spelled accurately.

Make sure you get the spelling right with your Arabic Tattoos

As for Rihanna, she sports a tattoo that features an Arabic phrase on her waist. The tattoo seems quite accurate at first glance, but if you are a native Arabic speaker or are fluent in the language, then you will know that her body art lacks the article “the” before the word for “Messiah.” A minor mistake, but a mistake nonetheless. So, if you, too are planning to follow the example of these celebrities and get your own Arabic tattoos, be sure to do as much research as Angelina did to make sure your tattoo is accurately designed and so you wont have to go back for a touch-up, as Rihanna would probably need to do.
